The hushed Salland

The Sallandse country is a region where tranquility and natural beauty have been working together for centuries. You also drive this route through Dalfsen and the surrounding Vechtdal.

The Vechtdal in Overijssel
The Vecht winds its way through a landscape in which past times have been preserved. Along the river you look out on pristine forests, hedgerows and meadows. Dalfsen is also located on the water, a cozy village in which you can still see many old farms and stately buildings. In this region there are also some historic country houses, such as the Leemcule. This estate dates from the fifteenth century, although the original castle was demolished in the early nineteenth century. Instead, the construction house has been converted into a chic residential house.

Salland
Outside the Vechtdal you drive through the Salland countryside. In this coulisse landscape you will see many authentic farms where farming is still going on. You have beautiful vistas over the fields or meadows that are separated by ditches and canals.

Monumental mills
In addition to monumental farms, there are also two historic windmills on the route. In Dalfsen you cycle past the Westermolen, a thatched corn mill from 1818. In the outlying area near Nieuwleusen, a mining village that originated in the seventeenth century, is Molen Massier. In 2006, only the hull of this flour mill from 1861 was left. In the years that followed, the mill was restored. Molen Massier is the only surviving copy of the original six mills that stood in Nieuwleusen.
