A tasteful capital

This route takes you through Namur, the tasteful capital of Wallonia. It is an ideal city to taste at your leisure: you will find cozy cafes, hotels and restaurants where culinary dishes are prepared with regional products.

Heritage
Of course, a city like Namur, which is more than 2000 years old, also has a lot of heritage. Near the Place du Marché you can see the fourteenth-century Belfry, which is on the Unesco World Heritage List. The Halle al\\\'Chair is also a must. This former guild house of the butchers dates from 1590. The monumental bridge Le Pont de Jambe takes you to the other bank of the Meuse. You have a beautiful view of the Citadel of Namur.

Maas and Sambre
Besides being a historic city, Namur is also a pleasantly green city. Part of the route you drive along the banks of the Sambre and the Meuse. Here, stately homes alternate with cozy parks. A little further south along the Meuse you pass La Plante, a park of about 2.5 hectares that was created around 1850. The park was restored in 2003, among other things by planting tall trees. The route starts and ends at the town hall of Namur.

The Citadel of Namur
You can't ignore it when you go to Namur: the Citadel. The old castle is located on a hundred meter high hill that was already used by the Romans as a settlement and defense site. The first stone ramparts date from the early Middle Ages. With seven kilometers of underground passages, this was one of the largest fortresses in Europe. The fort was used by the military until 1977. Now you can walk through a park and enjoy beautiful views of Namur and the Meuse valley. You can also visit the citadel itself for a historical tour or to test your perfume knowledge in a perfume workshop.
