Tour of the Twente raised bog from Delden

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant Wapen Van Delden. South of Enschede you drive through a quiet scenic landscape with moist stream valleys. There are beautiful regional farms and other monumental houses on your path. But you also pass through some special nature reserves. This region once contained an extensive raised peat area, of which the Haaksbergerveen is a beautiful remnant. The quiet Buurserzand is unique in Europe due to its size and wet character. You will see a mosaic of heathlands with hundred-year-old juniper berries, forests, small fields and some orchid meadows. Back in the former fortified town of Delden you will discover plenty of remnants from the past. Delden is mentioned as early as 1036 and there was a church there as early as 1118. In 1333 the small fortified town received city rights.
