Description
This round takes you through the Betuwe. Along the way you will discover the rural tranquility and cycle through beautiful old villages. From Opheusden you will depart in an easterly direction to Randwijk. Part of the Betuwe was part of the front line for several months at the end of the Second World War. Just past Randwijk you will cycle below Opheusden along the war memorial L80. On 4 October 1944 the Germans started an offensive against the Allies in the Betuwe. This led to fierce fighting with hundreds of deaths as a result. You continue your journey through the Betuwe to Ochten. Stop here for a delicious lunch break at the National Fruit Park. In the spring the fruit trees here turn white and pink in blossom. Beautiful!
