Walking through the polders near Alphen aan den Rijn

From Alphen aan den Rijn you take a walk through the polders. First you walk along the banks of the Oude Rijn. Here you will find some beautiful buildings, such as the strikingly white Villa Nuova from 1868. Then you walk through the vast polders with their rows of pollard willows, old farms and vast grassy meadows. How peaceful it is here! You pass the Lagenwaardse Molen, a polder mill that originally dates from 1634. You also walk along the Wijde Aa, an ancient peat stream. Along the Woudwetering you walk to Woubrugge. Here you can see the village church that was put into use in 1653. Along the medieval Heimanswetering you walk back to Alphen aan den Rijn. At Van der Valk Avifauna you end the walk with a delicious meal!
