A cycling gem in the Achterhoek

It is wonderfully quiet to cycle in the Achterhoek. From Laren in Gelderland you first drive to Landgoed Ampsen. The history of this country house dates back to 1105. The current building was originally built in the seventeenth century. You cross the Twentekanaal, after which you drive through Lochem and the forests of the Lochemse Berg. Via Barchem you cycle to the next nature reserve: the Beekvliet. Here you will find a mosaic of agricultural land, deciduous and coniferous forests, impressive tree avenues and hedgerows. In the heart of Ruurlo you can get off at Lunchroom Lievestro for a snack and drink. You drive through the countryside again on car-free roads. You also cycle through the vast forests of the Groote Veld. In Laren you can enjoy a terrace at Grand Café Bistro-rant 't Langenbaergh.
