On foot through the Lutterzand

The Lutter Sand
Around De Lutte you walk through a tranquil bocage landscape of meadows and bushes. You can enjoy a peaceful walk here. If you hear anything at all, it's the wind, a bird or a cyclist. You can probably count the number of people you meet on this route on one hand. The Lutterzand nature reserve is a must-see for every hiking enthusiast. In the rolling landscape you walk through sand drifts and through forests with Scots pine, birch and oak. This beautiful area is still an oasis of peace.

Paddling in the Dinkel
In the Lutterzand you walk a bit along the banks of the Dinkel. This meandering river still gnaws away from the bank inch by inch, so that you can see beautiful sand strips and spectacular calvings. Even the oldest and strongest trees eventually lose out to the power of the current. With a bit of luck you can spot a kingfisher here.

Stonehenge in Twente
The Bloemenbeek originates at De Lutte and eventually flows into the Dinkel. In honor of the 40th anniversary of this stream, which is inextricably linked to the cultural heritage of Twente, artist Bote Holman designed the Bloemenbeek monument. This work of art includes seven menhirs of Bentheimer sandstone and five Twente boulders. Through an ingeniously placed comet sphere and bronze disc, this work of art indicates the time and date via the sunlight. The Bloembeek Monument is as fascinating as it is mysterious and is also referred to as Twente's Stonehenge.
