Description

The route starts at Hotel Snouck van Loosen in Enkhuizen. This walk introduces you to the rich history of Enkhuizen. In the city center you walk through many picturesque streets with old buildings, interspersed with canals. Stroll past the historic monuments and feast your eyes! You pass the Drommedaris, the iconic city gate from 1657. In the Zuiderzee Museum you can see what Enkhuizen looked like at the time of the Zuiderzee. Further on you can visit the former city prison. The old cells and former torture instruments are completely intact. Enkhuizen is still partly surrounded by the original sixteenth-century fortification wall. Further on is the Koepoort, a detached city gate from 1649. The former orphanage has been recreated with the original materials. Take your time and sit on a terrace somewhere!
