The route starts at the Discovery Garden, the Garden. This walk introduces you to Enkhuizen's rich history. In the city center, you'll stroll through numerous picturesque streets lined with old buildings, interspersed with canals. Stroll past the historic monuments and be amazed! You'll pass the Drommedaris, the iconic city gate dating from 1657. At the Zuiderzee Museum, you can see what Enkhuizen looked like during the Zuiderzee era. Further on, you can visit the former city prison. The old cells and former torture devices are completely intact. Enkhuizen is still partially surrounded by its original sixteenth-century ramparts. Further on stands the Koepoort, a freestanding city gate dating from 1649. The former orphanage has been recreated using original materials. Take your time and find a terrace somewhere!
