Cycling through the forests of the Maasduinen

From Pannenkoekenhuis De Perdstal you can take a varied bike ride to the Maasduinen. You ride your legs along the floodplains of the Maas. You pass through Maashees, further on are the remains of the medieval Castle't Oordje. Just past Vierbeek you cycle through the famous Maasheggen landscape, after which you cross the Maas. You enter Maasduinen National Park via Afferden. A unique river dune landscape where you drive many kilometers through gently rolling forests and heathlands. In between, you can take a look at the ruins of Bleijenbeek Castle at junction 27. This originally medieval castle was destroyed in 1945 by an RAF bombing. Just past Well you cross the Maas again and drive back to the starting point via Wanssum and Geijsteren.
