A ride around Delden

In Twente you will find all the peace and space you could wish for as a cycling enthusiast. This route leads you through the typical Twente coulisse landscape of forests, meadows and meandering streams.

Estate Twickel
Landgoed Twickel is known for its gardens and park. In the orange you can admire a collection of citrus trees, quite unique in the Netherlands. You can recognize the farms that belong to the estate by the white shutters with black edges. There is also a castle on the estate, the oldest parts of which date from the mid-sixteenth century. The castle is inhabited by a noble family and cannot be visited inside.

The old Delden
You pass through a number of rural hamlets with beautiful monumental farms, such as Deldenerbroek. In and around Wiene you drive through an authentic hedgerow landscape where you experience the romance of times gone by. In the former fortified town of Delden you will also discover plenty of remnants from the past. For example, take a look at De Kroon (Markt 1), a residential house from 1764, from Langestraat.

Ancient North Mill
At node 74 you will see the Noordmolen, dating from 1325, on the Oelerbeek. This was once a double water mill, now only the oil mill with which oil is pressed from rapeseed and linseed remains. The flour mill that once stood opposite the oil mill was demolished in 1831. This beautiful spot is perfect for a picnic. Tip: before you leave, stock up on some Deldense Moppen, traditional butter biscuits whose recipe goes back more than a century.
