The Legend of the Abbey

Walcourt is one of the nicer towns in Wallonia. The old part of the city includes the beautiful town hall and the Abbey of Our Lady of Jardinet. According to a legend, this abbey was founded when the statue of Our Lady fled the building during a church fire in 1220 and ended up in a birch tree. The abbey was built on the site of that tree.
