Medieval castle
Of all the places on your route, Thy-le-Château is very special. This village has arisen around a striking castle. According to legend, this castle was built by a crusader in the twelfth century in the image of an oriental fortress in the port city of Tyr. In 1984 part of the film De Leeuw van Vlaanderen was filmed in the castle. So be sure to take some time to admire this special castle.
The legend of the abbey
Walcourt is one of the nicer towns in Wallonia. The old part of the city includes the beautiful town hall and the abbey of Our Lady of Jardinet. According to legend, this abbey originated when, during a church fire in 1220, the statue of Our Lady fled the building and ended up in a birch tree. In the place of that tree the abbey arose.
