Follow the emperor of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug

Your cycle route starts with a cup of coffee or a nice juice at SPOTT Eten & Drinken in Doorn. At the highest point of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug you will pass the Pyramid of Austerlitz, built in the nineteenth century by a French general as a tribute to Napoléon Bonaparte. Austerlitz was a place in the Czech Republic, where Napoleon won an important battle in 1805. After the First World War, the German Emperor Wilhelm II fled to the Netherlands, where he lived in Museum Huis Doorn. The beautiful house is now a museum where you can get an impression of his imperial way of life. Before he left for Huis Doorn, Wilhelm II lived at Kasteel Amerongen for a year and a half. Here he signed the form with which he officially renounced his imperial position.
