Description

Your cycling route starts at De Omrand Farm, with its nice local shop. In National Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug you drive in a gently sloping landscape through heathland and deciduous and coniferous forests. In the Soesterduinen you will find a unique and centuries-old drifting dune area. At the highest point of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug you can see the Pyramid of Austerlitz, a real eye-catcher. When the French general Marmont had Kamp Zeist moored on the heath in 1804, he also ordered his soldiers to build a pyramid mound of sand and sods, topped with an obelisk. The pyramid is a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte. Amersfoort is also rich in history. You can see the medieval history of the city in the many monuments, streets and canals.
