Description

Your cycling route starts at Boerderij De Omrand, with its nice local shop. In Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park you drive in a gently sloping landscape through heathlands and deciduous and coniferous forests. In the Soesterduinen you will find a unique and ancient drifting dune area. At the highest point of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug you will see the Pyramid of Austerlitz, a real eye-catcher. When the French general Marmont had Camp Zeist built on the heath in 1804, he also ordered his soldiers to build a pyramid mound of sand and sod, crowned with an obelisk. The pyramid is a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte. Amersfoort is also rich in history. You can see the medieval history of the city in the many monuments, streets and canals.
