Description

Put on your waterproof shoes for a walk through Kockengen. First you explore the historic heart of this village. Along the canal you can see beautiful eighteenth-century farmhouses with facades. Then you walk into the polder. Here you can see the characteristic cope landscape with its narrow strips of cultivated land. This mining pattern has its origins in the thirteenth century. You walk on a path lined with willows to the Kockengense Molen, a polder mill from 1675. The route takes you through Spengen, a name that is derived from Spain. From junction 47 you walk along the Bijleveld, a drainage canal that was constructed in 1413. On the other side of the water is the Spengense Molen, a polder mill from 1841. Back in Kockengen you enjoy a nice lunch at Abrona Kunst & Koffie.
