Kromme Rijnroute 4 castles

Along the Kromme Rijn you can take a 29 km walk from Wijk bij Duurstede to Utrecht, which mainly goes over the towpath along the river. That's a tough walk. But you can also divide the entire route into stages and turn it into circular walks. This year, 2022, it is 900 years ago that the Kromme Rijn was dammed. A good reason to walk around the Kromme Rijn every month. The fourth circular walk goes from Cothen on the towpath along the Kromme Rijn, via the Hardenbroek estate along the Langbroekerwetering and through the Weerdesteyn estate back to the starting point. You walk along the nature-friendly banks of the Kromme Rijn. Throughout the year you can see grebes, coots and moorhens. If you are lucky you will spot a little grebe. In the spring, the meadow birds return: redshank, lapwing and oystercatcher. Thanks to the Room for the River project and the construction of small wetland areas, they have found their natural habitat here. After crossing the busy N229 you walk into the quiet area on the open hiking trails of the estates. Here you only hear the birds sing and you are alone with nature.
