round Zoommeer from Zeeland

A water-rich route along the creek sluices. They form the connection between the Zoommeer and the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. Inland vessels pass here every day on their way to the ports of Antwerp or Rotterdam. The locks separate the salt water of the canal from the fresh water of the Zoommeer. The Zoommeer is located on the site of the drowned land of Reimerswaal. On the way back you will pass the rat quay, an authentic harbor that was created after 1856 for the transport of sugar beets. At the end of the harbor dam is a plaque for Jonkheer Muralt, the creator of the muralt wall. This wall was built on top of the dike as extra reinforcement. A piece of muralt wall can still be seen on the harbor dam. The start and end point of the route is diner and mini-camping ZeeuwsGenieten.
