The Kuno Route owes its name to Kuno, the famous hero from regional legend. This old folk tale full of betrayal and forbidden love was spread by traveling storytellers. Kuno, the son of Lady Minnegardis, trained as a priest in Aachen. However, he was more attracted to the glorious expeditions of the army of his uncle Wijnand van Bovenburcht. Kuno became a brave knight and even became an officer of King Charles's bodyguard. He fell in love with the king's youngest daughter and fled with her to the castle of Wijnand. Kuno's time may be over, but the most impressive traces can still be seen in the historic center of Aachen, the imposing castles in Voerendaal and the ancient landscape that connects these places. You can follow this walking route with a downloadable route description with additional information. Parking is available at the Bernardushoeve, where you can also book an overnight package to complete your Kuno experience.
