Description

Large peat ponds, elongated meadows, meandering rivers and ditches that reach to the horizon: that is the Ronde Venen in a nutshell. A great area to completely clear your head during a long bike ride. Just outside the Ronde Venen you drive a few kilometers along the Nieuwkoopse Plassen. This typical Dutch swamp landscape is one of the few extensive low peat areas in our country. The route also takes you through centuries-old characteristic villages and hamlets that developed around a lock or crossing of waterways. For example, Woerdense Verlaat was built near the lock in the Grecht that was built in 1448. You pass two forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam: Fort Uithoorn and Fort Waver-Amstel. The route ends in Kockengen at Abrona Kunst & Koffie.
