Tour of Regge in Rijssen

Your route starts at Restaurant De Stadsboerderij Rijssen. You walk past the Ter Horst mill in Rijssen, an octagonal upper porter from 1752. Volunteer millers beat oil and peel barley with the mill, which is beautifully situated along the Regge. Many goods used to be transported via the river Regge. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, zomps, boats with a flat bottom that could sail even in very shallow water, sailed here. The Oosterhof is a manor that acquired its current appearance mainly in the 18th century. But the history goes back even further: the Oosterhof is already mentioned in a deed of sale from 1334. Rijssen was already given city rights in 1243. City walls and a city moat were constructed: it was a truly fortified town.
