Tour of De Weelen near Lutjebroek

Your route starts at Fruitkwekerij t Keetje. From here you first make a nice round through nature reserve De Weelen. Here you can see the development pattern from the Middle Ages, with ditches that run from north to south. Until the sixties, agriculture was practiced on these small strips. After a stop at your starting point, you make a detour through nature and polder. Characteristic Frisian stolp farms and the dialect reveal that this region belonged to Frisian territory for a long time in the Middle Ages. Bovenkarspel, Grootebroek and Lutjebroek used to form the farming town of Stede Broek, which was already mentioned in the 7th century. Residents were given special permission to stay outside the city for a few days a year and work on the land.
