Tour De Weelen near Lutjebroek

Your route starts at Fruitkwekerij t Keetje. From here you first take a nice tour through the De Weelen nature reserve. Here you can see the reclamation pattern from the Middle Ages, with ditches running from north to south. Agriculture was practiced on those small strips until the 1960s. After a stopover at your starting point, you take a short detour through nature and the polder. Characteristic Frisian farmhouses and the dialect reveal that this region belonged to Frisian territory for a long time in the Middle Ages. Bovenkarspel, Grootebroek and Lutjebroek used to form the farming town of Stede Broek, which was already mentioned in the 7th century. Residents were given special permission to stay outside the city for a few days a year and work in the fields.
