Tour of Roermond along Roer and Swalm

Your route starts at Camping Huttopia De Meinweg. When you think of water sports, you picture Friesland or Holland. However, the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands is located in Central Limburg: the Maasplassen. First you cycle through the coniferous forests of Luzenkamp. You cross the Swalm, after which you drive into the moist deciduous forests of the Swalm valley. At the edge of the forest you will pass Hillenraad Castle, a square moated castle from the fourteenth century. Once you reach the Maas, you drive along the bank through historic Roermond. Get off here for a terrace! A little further on you will pass Overen, a mansion from the eighteenth century, in the Roer Valley. In Sint-Odiliënberg you will pass the twelfth-century basilica. Here you have a beautiful view over the meandering Rur.
