Description

Your route starts at Camping De Meinweg - Huttopia. You can cycle straight into the Meinweg National Park here. The area is known for its unique terraced landscape. These terraces were created over tens of thousands of years by the erosion of the Meuse and three fault lines in the earth's crust. You cycle past dense old forests and stream valleys. Almost unnoticed you cross the German border, a little later you drive back into the Netherlands. Along the southern side of the park, the Rothenbach or Red Brook forms the border between Germany and the Netherlands. On the Rothenbach you can view the Gitstapper mill from 1377. The watermill is fed by the water of the Rothenbach, which flows further into the Roer. This tributary of the Maas meanders beautifully through the landscape here.
