Tour of Loevestein, Gorinchem and Woudrichem

Your route starts at BY't VEER. The route first passes the beautiful centuries-old Loevestein Castle. This fortress is located in a strategic location, where the rivers Maas and Waal continue together as the Boven-Merwede. It became famous overnight when Hugo Grotius managed to escape from the correctional center in a book chest in 1619. In the museum you will learn all about his epic escape. You cycle to Sleeuwijk via Woudrichem. Then you cycle to Gorinchem, where you can arrive comfortably by ferry. You will see beautiful historic buildings such as the Kapeltoren, the Dalempoort and four windmills. You cycle back along the Waal, with a short excursion to the Leuven Kweldijk. A ferry will take you back to your starting point.
