Description

What did it look like in Hoogezand and Martenshoek in the past? Where did you get your groceries, where did ships dock and where did people work? The old part of Hoogezand and Martenshoek has a lively history full of shipping and shipbuilding. In collaboration with the Groninger Archives, the Historical Archives of Central Groningen developed a walk along the historic ribbon of Hoogezand and Martenshoek. Along the route you can see everything that refers to the history of a place. Sometimes the building itself, or photos that show what it was like.

Cardboard and Hoogezand belong together. The strawboard factory Hooites-Beukema opened its doors here at 114 Meint Veningastraat in 1869.
