Historical tour of the Exloo Forestry

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant Het Wapen van Exloo. From the beautiful esdorpje Exloo you walk straight into Boswachterij Exloo. In this rolling landscape coniferous and deciduous trees and heathlands alternate. It is the beating heart of De Hondsrug UNESCO Global Geopark. The Hondsrug landscape is relatively untouched and you will see many traces from the ice ages. In the middle of the forest you will pass dolmen D30. These impressive structures were built five thousand years ago as a communal grave. But you will come across many more traces from history, such as a boundary stone at a three-way junction with a thick oak tree. In the past, such stones indicated the border between the marks of Odoorn, Exloo and Buinen. You will also see the Gletsjerkuil, which was created during the ice age.
