Historical tour of Exloo Forestry

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant Het Wapen van Exloo. From the beautiful esdorp village of Exloo you can easily walk into Boswachterij Exloo. In this rolling landscape, coniferous and deciduous trees and heathlands alternate. It is the beating heart of the Hondsrug UNESCO Global Geopark. The Hondsrug landscape is relatively untouched and you can see many traces from the ice ages. In the middle of the forestry you will pass dolmen D30. These impressive buildings were built five thousand years ago as a communal grave. But you will come across many more traces of history, such as a marker at a three-way junction with a thick oak tree. In the past, such stones marked the border between the markets of Odoorn, Exloo and Buinen. You will also see the Glacier Pit, which was created during the Ice Age.
