Tour of the forest ranger stations and the Hunebed Centre

You start the route at Hotel Restaurant Het Wapen van Exloo. In the heart of Drenthe there are several beautiful forest areas. In Boswachterij Grolloo and Boswachterij Schoonloo heathlands and forests alternate. The deeper you drive into the forests, the quieter it becomes. On your route you will find a lookout tower to view the area from above: at junction 58. On the way back you will pass several nice places to get off and learn more about this special area, such as Visitors Centre Het Boomkroonpad / Houtvester Kuhnhuis. Between Grolloo and Borger you will pass a number of dolmens that give you a glimpse into a past that goes back 5000 years in time. A little later you will drive past the Hunebedcentrum near Borger.
