Round Bakkeveense Dunes from Roden

Your route starts at Hotel Eetcafé Zalencentrum Onder de Linden. This was originally an old Drenthe village. In the vicinity of Roden you will find swamps and dry sandy plains, but also green stream valleys, vast forests, beautiful estates and fens. On the southeast side of Roden you will find the Mensinge estate. On this estate you will find beautiful forests and a manor from the 14th century. The house was inhabited until 1985 and then the manor was transformed into a museum. The furnishings have changed little since the house is no longer inhabited. Steenbergen is named after the nearby dolmen D01: a'mountain of stones\\\'. Between Haulerwijk and Bakkeveen you drive through the Bakkeveense Duinen, an unspoilt heathland and forest area where peat has never been mined.
