Tour Castle Doorwerth and Boersberg

Your route starts at Boscafé De Beken. Before you leave, take a look at Nature Information Center De Beken. Here you can learn more about the Renkums Beekdal and the Renkumse Poort, an ecological connecting zone between Veluwe and Rhine. Then you walk along the floodplains of the Lower Rhine. Here you will discover the beautiful Doorwerth Castle, a fine example of a moated castle, where the thick outer walls together with the water provide protection. Just behind the castle you walk up De Boersberg, a lateral moraine that originated in the ice age. The river later carved a steep slope here. You walk back past listening point L20: Landings of parachutists and gliders. Here you can hear how the sky was colorful on Sunday September 17, 1944, when countless paratroopers landed here.
