Round Planken Wambuis and Castle Doorwerth

Your route starts at Boscafé De Beken. Near Wageningen you will discover Landgoed Belmonte, nowadays botanical garden Belmonte Arboretum. Due to its unique location on top of a moraine, you can enjoy surprising views of the Nederrijn and the characteristic landscape of the Betuwe. Then you drive along the rolling Ginkelse Heide. On the other side of the cycle path is the Sysselt, a vast forest area. You also drive through the woods of Planken Wambuis. On the way back you cycle along the floodplains of the Lower Rhine. Here you can fully enjoy beautiful views over the water. Nearby you will discover the beautiful Doorwerth Castle, a fine example of a moated castle, where the thick outer walls together with the water provide protection.
