Drenthe village route from Exloo

You cycle through several green villages in a landscape of vast meadows, forests and heathlands. In Klijndijk you can take a break at Buffet Restaurant Thijs and Aafke. In Sleen you cycle past the De Hoop flour mill from 1914. In the village of Gees you see something typically Drenthe: a boulder. This specimen is almost four meters long and over two meters high. It is the largest in Drenthe. Just beyond Oosterhesselen is the wooded De Klencke Estate. The current manor dates from the eighteenth century. You also cycle through Zweeloo, which served as a source of inspiration for artists such as Vincent van Gogh at the end of the nineteenth century. A little further on you drive through Oud-Aalden, an old esdorp that consists entirely of beautiful Saxon farms. The route ends at Hotel Restaurant Het Wapen van Exloo.
