Description

Your route starts at Camping Restaurant De Zeehoeve. From here you first walk to beautiful Harlingen. You walk on the Westerzeedijk and you have a beautiful view over the Wadden Sea. On the way back you make a nice loop through the Frisian country to Kimswerd. The village extends on two sides of the Harlingervaart. The village is centuries old: there are even finds from Roman times. The current Kimswerd has been inhabited since the seventh century. Terp villages like these are characteristic of the Frisian landscape. Centuries ago, the sea left behind more silt in some places in the salt marsh than in others: elevations where it was possible to build safely. At the highest point is St. Laurentius Church, with a Romanesque tuff nave dating from the 11th century.
