Description
From here you walk to the Castle d\\\'Oultremont, which used to be known as the pink castle of the Land of Once. The theme park is now closed and the castle has been beautifully restored. The oldest mention of the castle dates from 1559. The area is rapidly developing, nice to take a look. Then you walk through the Nieuwkuijkse Bosje, a former coppice forest. Here you will encounter traces of the mighty Maas. Various wheels in the area bear witness to previous dike breaches. The Nieuwkuijkse Wiel was created in 1880 after the flooding of the Bergsche Maas. It used to flow here during times of high water. There are many birds to spot on and around the lake!
