Tour of Zevenhoven and Braassemermeer

Your route starts at Landwinkel Castelijn. Corpse mill No. 1 is a special mill: together with the Lijkermolen No. 2, these are the only twelve-sided stone mills in the country. You see an abundance of polder mills here, they are indispensable. The municipality of Kaag en Braassem even has the most windmills in the whole of the Netherlands: 20! You also drive a bit along the Braassemermeer. This lake was created by peat extraction and is now gratefully used by many water sports enthusiasts. Zevenhoven used to consist of difficult to penetrate and boggy peat. Dewatering started in 1085. It is named after the number of farms that were originally located here: around 1100, taxes had to be paid here for seven farms. The 16th century Cologne Beardman jars that were excavated here are very special.
