Tour of Zevenhoven and Braassemermeer

Lijkermolen No. 1 is a special mill: together with Lijkermolen No. 2, these are the only twelve-sided stone mills in the country. You will see an abundance of polder mills here, they are indispensable. The municipality of Kaag en Braassem even has the most mills in the whole of the Netherlands: 20! You will also drive along the Braassemermeer for a while. This lake was created by peat excavation and is now gratefully used by many water sports enthusiasts. Zevenhoven used to consist of difficult to penetrate and marshy peat. Drainage began in 1085. It is named after the number of farms that were originally located here: around 1100, taxes had to be paid for seven farms. The 16th century Cologne bearded man jugs that were excavated here are very special.
