The Waldentocht

This cycling route in beautiful water-rich Friesland takes you through unique nature reserves. Most of the route you cycle through the so-called 'Friesland Lage Midden', a wide band of peatlands. From the starting point on the edge of the village of Earnewâld you cycle a bit through De Alde Feanen National Park, a huge swamp area with lakes, peat ponds and swamp forests. The area was dredged and excavated in the eighteenth century for peat extraction. The route also takes you through the picturesque villages of Oudega, Opeinde and Eastermar with beautiful monumental farms and small marinas with the most beautiful sailing yachts. The start and end point of the route is at Princenhof, Hotel & Restaurant. Here you have a wonderful view of the water and the moored boats from the terrace.
