The Waldentocht

This cycle route in the beautiful water-rich Friesland takes you through unique nature reserves. The largest part of the route you cycle through the so-called'Friesland Lage Midden\\\', a wide band of peat lands. From the starting point on the edge of the village of Earnewald you cycle a bit through National Park De Alde Feanen, a huge swamp area with lakes, peat pools and swamp forests. The area was dredged and excavated in the eighteenth century for the purpose of peat extraction. The route also takes you through the picturesque villages of Oudega, Opeinde and Eastermar with beautiful monumental farms and small marinas with the most beautiful sailing yachts. The start and end point of the route is at Princenhof, Hotel & Restaurant. Here you can look out over the water and the moored boats from the terrace.
