This route takes you through the IJsselvallei near Voorst and Wilp. A beautiful environment for a relaxing bike ride full of natural beauty and cultural history.
Appense Bos
You can't imagine a more wonderful start to a cycling route than in the middle of a recreational area! Lake Bussloo was created by sand excavation for the construction of the A1 motorway. From here you can relax in the Appense Bos, a wonderfully quiet nature reserve. Then the IJssel Valley awaits you with its car-free dikes, leafy roads, fields and historic farms. Get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful landscape.
Nijenbeek Castle
On the edge of Voorst you pass the Reformed Church with its twelfth-century tower. Just past junction 37 is the ruin of Nijenbeek Castle from the thirteenth century. Charles III of Guelders wanted to control shipping on the IJssel from this castle. It is then wonderful to cycle along the river. You pass the Wilpermolen, a flour mill from 1736.
