Tour of the Papenberg lookout tower

This route takes you to the seven-meter Papenberg lookout tower, at the highest point of Castricum. It is the crowning achievement of the development of the area, which has become more attractive to visitors and at the same time offers more space for special dune nature. Between Bergen, Egmond aan Zee and Alkmaar you will find a beautiful dune area that is waiting to be discovered. In Egmond Inside you pass the park where the Egmond Abbey is located. This St. Adelbert Abbey, founded in the tenth century, is the oldest in the Netherlands. In the artists' village of Bergen you see many beautiful stately buildings. The bulb fields between Alkmaar and Egmond are a feast for the eyes. Just before the end of the route you can have something to eat or drink at De Oude Keuken.
