Tour of the Sallandse Heuvelrug: Eelerberg Estate

This route takes you from Recreatiebedrijf De Huttert to the Eelerberg, the northernmost peak of the Sallandse Heuvelrug in Overijssel. It is a special place for a walk. And not just because of the views you have at open spaces. An estate was founded here in 1847, almost twenty years later a country house was built that was used as a country estate by the owner at the time. Their arrival was quite an experience. Even before the summer season, carriages with household effects were driven to Eelerberg. When the owner drove up the driveway with his family, the children of the tenants would welcome them by waving flags. The family planted the 40-meter high hill with forest. The whimsical oaks, white birches and ancient juniper bushes give it a mysterious touch.
