Around Amsterdam and Zaandam

Your route starts at EuroParcs Spaarnwoude, beautifully situated on the waterfront in the Geuzenbos. From here you can cycle straight into Amsterdam. You cycle over the cozy Haarlemmerdijk with all its shops and delicatessens and then take the ferry across the IJ. Here you have a beautiful view of the skyline of the city and the EYE Film Museum. You cycle out of the city through hip Amsterdam-Noord, to Zaandam. You are suddenly in the middle of the polder! You will pass the Luijendijk on the edge of the Twiske recreation area. The area originated in 1589 as a'lazy dike: ships were put over the dike at the lock until the 19th century. Today, the lock is fully automated. A little further on you will discover the Schermersluis - Overtoom.
