Tour of the Arkemheem Steam Pumping Station

From here you walk through the Arkemheen polder, part of the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape. It is a Natura 2000 area where the Eurasian wigeon, the small white swan and meadow birds are given extra protection. In the nature reserve you will find breeding grounds for all kinds of water and meadow birds. It is also an important stop and wintering place for migratory birds. Take a look at the visitor centre in the old coal shed with a beautiful photo wall and cuddly polder animals. You can also drink coffee there. From the attic you have a view over the polder. In the special bird watching window birdwatchers are ready for you. Because the land is getting wetter you see more and more birds here. Also take the Luisterplaats project Zout, where you can hear special stories about the polder.
