Tour of Arkemheem steam pumping station

Your route starts at EuroParcs Bad Hulckesteijn. From here you walk through the Arkemheen polder, part of the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape. It is a Natura 2000 area where the widgeon, the little white swan and meadow birds are given extra protection. In the nature reserve you will find breeding grounds for all kinds of water and meadow birds. It is also an important staging post and wintering site for migratory birds. Take a look at the visitor center in the old coal shed with a beautiful photo wall and cuddly polder animals. You can also drink coffee there. From the attic you have a view over the polder. Bird watchers are waiting for you in the special bird viewing window. Because the land is getting wetter, you will see more and more birds here.
