Tour of Quackjeswater and Haringvliet locks

Your route starts at De IJsboerin. From here you walk through Voornes Duin, a dune area that is unprecedentedly rich in plant and animal species. You walk straight through the dunes to the forest around the Quackjeswater, a dune lake. Thick old oak trees and many plant species grow here. It looks like a primeval forest. Because no drinking water is extracted here, the dunes are very damp. Hence all those dune lakes where numerous birds can be seen. You walk back along the beach to get a breath of fresh air by the sea. Here you have a beautiful view of the Haringvliet locks between the North Sea and the mouth of the Haringvliet. They regulate the water level just like opening or closing a tap. The locks are therefore known as the crane of Europe.
