You cycle into the pleasant Valkenburg via a beautiful route. You pass Schaloen Castle, built with local marl. The Geul accompanies you to Maastricht. From the thirteenth-century Sint-Servaasbrug, the oldest bridge in the Netherlands, you have a beautiful view of the city and the Maas. On the spot where the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek now stands, there was already a small church in the 5th century. It was probably the oldest Christian church in the Netherlands and was possibly built on top of the remains of a Roman temple. You cycle along the Jeker river through the Flemish border village of Kanne. After a crossing over the Sint-Pietersberg. you enter the old city centre of Maastricht again. Via Bemelen you cycle back to your starting point.
