Cycling through historic Drenthe

Your route starts at Brasserie De 3 Heeren. Want to spend a day cycling through the Drenthe of yesteryear? Then come to the Drentsche Aa National Landscape, the best-preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. Here, the Drentsche Aa still meanders through the landscape in its original form. While almost every other area in the Netherlands was turned upside down, people here took the landscape as it was. It feels as if you are cycling through a Drenthe open-air museum. You will pass through characteristic esdorps such as Gasteren and Anderen. Here you can still see the original brinks: meadows bordered by old beech and oak trees. Balloo has no brink, but lies like a wreath around the es. The village of Oudemolen is named after a dilapidated watermill that once stood by the Drentsche Aa.
