When you think of Drenthe, you think of vast heaths and quiet forests. This TT route, for example, takes you across the Hondsrug, which is one of the higher parts of Drenthe. You drive here through woods and heathland and through imposing beech avenues. Surprisingly enough, you drive through one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands in the middle of Assen! In the Asserbos there is still a piece of the forests that once covered Drenthe. The rest was transformed into a forest of stars in the eighteenth century.

The history of the Dutch TT
A century ago, racing was not allowed in the Netherlands. Only in 1924, after the introduction of the new motorcycle and bicycle law, was it possible to obtain an exemption from the ban on holding racing competitions. This did not fall on deaf ears in Assen. Less than a year later,'Motorclub Assen and surroundings\\\' formed the basis of the first Dutch TT. Up to and including 1954, the TT was held on roads through the Drenthe landscape. This route combines the circuit of the first TT from 1925 with that of the circuit that was run between 1926 and 1954. It has only been raced on the TT circuit at Assen since 1955.
