The'Polder van Nootdorp\\\" is bordered by the Veenweg, the Dwarskade, the Balij Reijerskade between Nootdorp and Pijnacker and the land separation dyke between Delfland and Rijnland. Today we walk through this historic area where many has changed but the main lines of the roads that we find on old maps are still present.
?
In the first half of the 19th century, a large part of the polder was under water as a result of peat extraction. Peat was used as fuel.
At the end of the 19th century, the polder was pumped dry by a steam pumping station at Oosteinde. After that it became possible to use the land for agriculture and horticulture.
In recent decades, the design of the area has changed drastically. Much pasture has made way for housing (Leidschenveen) and nature (Dobbeplas).
Noitdorpsche Historiën takes you through the landscape in 2022, with traces of the past here and there.
The starting point of the walk is at Grand Café 1837, located in a more than 300-year-old farmhouse. On the Veenweg we find the Sint Bartholomeuskerk, consecrated in 1871. The Veenweg is already mentioned in 1281. Here we see many beautifully restored houses, for example number 57 and number 50. Also a restored, still working, drawbridge at number 59. The new housing estate Leidschenveen is located in the old polder and via the Roleveen, with the Nooitgedacht farm, we arrive in the Hoge Veen. Via the historic Balij Reijerskade we walk to the Balije Garden, our resting point in this walk. We continue our way through the 13 Dobbetjes, a new walking area around the old Laakweg. Via the Oosteinde we go back to the old center of Nootdorp. At Grand Café 1837 we end our walk.
We hope you enjoyed it.
