Kromme Rijn route 1 Wijk bij Duurstede

This is the first of a series of walks along the Kromme Rijn. In 2022 it will be 900 years since this old course of the Rhine was dammed. From the Market in Wijk bij Duurstede, the route goes past Duurstede Castle. The castle is located at the strategic location where the Rhine split into Kromme Rijn and Lek. Along the Lek  you walk along the harbor over the inundation lock and cross the inundation canal that nowadays forms the connection between the Nederrijn and Kromme Rijn. We walk a bit along the Kromme Rijn and back along the path Along the Rhine where the Rhine used to flow. Then via a shortcut to the starting point.
