Description

Your route starts at Heidecafé De Strabrechtse Heide. You walk straight into nature here. On the Strabrechtse Heide you can see how large parts of North Brabant used to look. You walk along dry and damp heathland, fens and drifting sand. In early spring you can hear and see the moor frog at the fens. Bush and bell heather are 'mown' here by Kempense Heideschapen. When you encounter the herd and its shepherd it seems as if you are taking a leap back in time. People have been connected to this special area for centuries. Agriculture was already practiced on the Strabrechtse Heide in the Iron Age, and remains of Celtic fields have even been found. At the Waschven you have a good view of the grazing Scottish highlanders.
