Tour of Fort Battice and Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery

Your route starts at Bikes4fun. This historic route introduces you to impressive places just across the border in Belgium, which are connected to the Second World War. Located 17 km from the German border, Battice Fort from the 1930s was one of the first positions attacked by the German army on May 10, 1940. The garrison consisted of 750 men. During the enemy's 12-day siege, 34 of them lost their lives. Inside you can see how the ammunition elevator of an artillery building works, or how a 175 HP generator was used to provide the fort with electricity. Back you drive past the American Cemetery of Henri-Chapelle. 7,989 fallen soldiers rest here, most of whom gave their lives during the Ardennes offensive in December 1944.
